We have an exciting opportunity to join our Nursing Team here at Amersham Health Centre, based in Amersham Town, Buckinghamshire. We are a caring and forward-thinking Practice that strives to achieve an excellent standard of patient care, with 3 GP Partners and approximately 14,500 patients.
Hours of Work: 08.30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (and covering Enhanced Access on Tuesday morning from 7am - 8.30am)
Job Summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP or Nurse.
Main Tasks:
* Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
* Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures.
* Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
* Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
* Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible.
* Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
* Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
* Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
* Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues.
Essential Skills:
* Experience of working in a healthcare assistant role, adult health and social care, learning support of public health / health improvement.
* Experience working within a GP Practice.
* Great communication skills.

* Effective time management skills.
* Confident around other health professionals.
Desirable Skills:
* Working knowledge of EMIS Web and Docman 10.
