Port Health Team Leader Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2026 Salary: £62,350 inclusive of all allowances 36.82 Per week Full time Workplace role category Hybrid Location : London Gateway, although may need to visit other Ports nearby including Denton, Purfleet, Sheerness, Tilbury 1 and 2 and Thamesport. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Port Health Team Leader to join the London Port Health Authority (LPHA), following the introduction of the EU regime and controls. You will be undertaking and overseeing a wide range of imported food control work at London Gateway, one of the largest Border Control Posts in Great Britain and at Tilbury Docks, Tilbury 2, Purfleet and Thamesport which all cater for a variety of bulk and containerised traffic. The main office is located at London Gateway Logistics Centre, Stanford Le Hope, Essex. The exit from the EU means you will deal with existing third country imports and European cargo, with a wide range of foodstuffs. You will be a Portal Official Veterinarian or Port Health Officer, experienced in conducting Official Controls and checks upon imports of products of animal origin (POAO), illegal unreported and unregulated fishing, high risk food and feed not of animal origin (HRNAO) in order to ensure that only products that are safe to eat enter the food and feed chain. You will be able to demonstrate excellent skills and experience in managing diverse teams and developing, and, maintaining high performing teams. You will provide direction and leadership in a fast paced environment, determining the priorities and allocation of resources of the multi-disciplinary team comprised of Official Veterinarians, Port Health Officer, Senior Port Health Technical Officer and Port Health Technical Officers. You should be able to communicate effectively and collaboratively with all customers and stakeholders, providing excellent customer service and displaying the values and behaviours of our organisation. You will play a key and proactive role in problem solving and developing and implementing new ideas and initiatives for the Port Health service. You will be proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite and training will be given for Port specific systems. The week day shifts are on a 8 week rotating shift pattern of early, day and late shifts since the service operates from 0600 until 2200 Monday – Friday, with weekends (Saturday and Sunday), once every 8 weeks from 0800 until 1615. Candidates will need to have a full driving licence and their own transport.
