Home, a place where you belong
Want to be part of a team that really cares and empowers you to help change a customer’s life for the better? As our Support Worker, you’ll be at the heart of supporting our customers who have complex mental health needs and may also have a substance misuse issue and/or a mild learning disability. You’ll make a big difference each day as you help our customers achieve their hopes and aspirations.
Typical day as our Support Worker
* Starting the day with a cuppa and handover with colleagues, catching up on any changes since you were last on shift and the tasks/support planned for the day ahead.
* Supporting customers with their identified support needs such as helping with cleaning, paying their rent/bills, accompanying them to community activities or appointments, or supporting customers to learn and regain skills with daily living activities such as making meals, shopping, budgeting, maintaining their tenancy, and moving on to independent accommodation when they are able.
* Arranging in-house cooking groups, BBQs, or community activities such as a trip to Felixstowe for fish and chips.
* Supporting customers at times of distress and being resilient to support them.
* Contributing to risk assessments, support planning, goal setting, and regular reviews.
* Contributing to the maintenance of the property, reporting repairs and health and safety requirements.
You bring
* A passion to support our customers to live their best life, working together as a team with an eye for detail.
* Experience of supporting others; you may have worked in a supporting/housing environment before or have experience of supporting others such as family members who have mental health issues.
* The ability to work on your own initiative, remain calm under pressure, and have a resilient approach.
* Recognizing that every customer is different and being able to adopt a flexible, personal approach, listening to customers to understand their needs.
* A positive attitude with a solution-focused approach.
* Able to use technology to update support plans, complete online learning, and collaborate with colleagues.
Due to limits on our current certificates of sponsorship, we are not able to offer sponsorship to external candidates for this role. This remains under regular review.
Our team
You’ll join our Managers Kathy and Debbie along with our Ipswich Cluster team. We’re super passionate about what we do! We’re really proud of how well we work together and support each other, especially at times when life gets a bit tricky for customers. We’re a supportive bunch and like to have a good laugh and get together for lunch.
Job details
* Where we’re flexible with you, we do need to meet the needs of our customers. That may mean adapting your start or finishing times on occasion.
* Work pattern is a 4-week rolling rota, where you take your turn working sleep-in shifts and weekends/bank holidays. Shifts are generally 9-5/6, 2-11, and sleep-in 7-3.
* Although there are times you’ll lone work, we often have other colleagues on shift in the service or as part of our wider cluster services and an out-of-hours on-call in the event of an emergency should you need assistance.
* You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done, and we pay for that.

Great things happen when we can be ourselves at work. We want all our colleagues to be who they truly are here. Our internal diversity networks, peers, and allies (Multicultural, LGBTQIA+, and Disability) support us all to be our best. Together we make Home Group a great place to work!
What’s in it for you?
* 34 days leave (including bank holidays and a “me day” to use for whatever you fancy), increasing to 39, with the option to buy 5 more, and time off for volunteering too!
* Health cash plan saving you from £1140 per annum. We’ll cover your costs (and kids if you have them) towards dental, optical, prescriptions, alternative therapies, and lots more.
* Over 800 high street discounts on groceries, holidays, and days out. Looking for a new phone, bike, or car? Save money with us.
* We Grow Our Own colleagues (not literally, of course!). When you’re ready for the next step in your career, you can grow with us!
