We are looking for an experienced Band 4 Plaster Technician to join our friendly Outpatient team in the Plaster Room and Fracture Clinics. You will work at Worthing Hospital and rotate to St Richards Hospital as required.
The successful candidate will be a skilled Plaster Technician having completed the British Casting Certificate (BCC) Plaster Technician Course or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for direct clinical care for patients within their area of work. They will assist with the provision of outpatient services within the Trust, assist with the most effective use of resources and manpower, and participate in the planning and developing of the future service in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures.
Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a skilled Plaster Technician having completed the British Casting Certificate (BCC) Plaster Technician Course or equivalent. Demonstrates continuing professional development and recertification of BCC.
Main Duties
1. Provide care to a wide range of adult and paediatric patients that attend the Plaster Room.
2. Manage basic/complex wound care needs of patients.
3. Be competent at removing sutures and skin clips.
4. Select and issue appropriate walking aids, adjusting them to ensure optimum use, and instructing patients in the correct use of walking aids.
5. Select, apply and/or remove all casts and splints in consultation with the treating Clinician.
6. Perform cast applications and support in manipulations and reductions.
7. Apply braces to patients when required to elbows, knees, humerus, spinal braces/corsets, and hips.
8. Adjust external fixators.
9. Design and construct specialist custom casts/splints as required in consultation with medical staff.
10. Assist nursing staff in Orthopaedic clinics.
11. Ensure that clinics run smoothly.
12. Resolve queries, requests and complaints in a polite manner.
13. Ensure patients understand the compliance with treatment/care plan.
14. Apply specialised knowledge and skills to ensure the optimal treatment outcome and minimise patient discomfort.
15. Manage patients with plaster problems when they return to the Plaster Room, making decisions to change the cast or not, and recognise medical conditions such as compartment syndrome, DVT.
16. Work in a safe and effective way to a high standard of care.

Qualifications & Experience
* British Casting Certificate.
* British Orthopaedic Casting registration.
* 1 year clinical experience in appropriate setting.
