At Mercer & Hughes, being part of Kin Vet Community offers numerous advantages. Kin Vet Community, established in June 2023, is a vet-led collective of 19 veterinary practices in Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Kent and Southwest London. We provide compassionate, high-quality care for pets and their owners with a strong focus on providing collaborative support for our clinicians.
Mercer & Hughes are a well-established group of three small animal veterinary practices with one larger feeder hospital practice based in and around Essex. The four practices work hand in hand providing exceptional care to its clients and patients, with day surgeries at each branch and in-house OOH and emergency care via the hospital branch in Saffron Walden. We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly practices in Bocking Braintree and Great Dunmow, with support across all branches when required.
As part of a growing group of veterinary practices, we’re dedicated to creating a supportive and collaborative environment where both our clients and team members thrive.
About the Role:
In this role, in your first few months with us, we operate a rotating theatre, inpatient and consulting rota so you get to experience every area of the practice. We have multiple certificate holders in both our vet and nursing teams, and actively encourage further CPD. We have a well-planned diary with 15-minute consults, time in the diary for admin/phone calls, dedicated theatre days and a variety of shifts to ensure smooth 24/7 cover, without anyone working over their planned hours.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct 15-minute consultations with clients to assess their pets' health and provide diagnosis and treatment.
* Advise clients on preventative care and long-term health management for their pets.
* Work collaboratively with a dedicated team of veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and support staff to provide outstanding care.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
* Take part in group-wide initiatives, including CPD training and best practice sharing.
* Work closely with the Clinical Director to ensure the practice consistently upholds the highest standards of care.
* Develop and nurture relationships with clients, providing them with the information and support they need.
* Perform a range of surgical procedures, from routine to emergency surgeries (based on your skillset and experience).
* Shadow, learn and rotate between areas for your ongoing development.
What we're looking for:
We are seeking a confident and compassionate Graduate Veterinary Surgeon who is motivated by providing high-quality care and building lasting relationships with their team, clients and their pets. You will be joining a team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and the well-being of both staff and patients.
What we're offering:
* A competitive salary of up to £38,000 per annum depending on experience.
* 25 days annual leave, increasing each year up to a maximum of 30 days plus bank holidays.
* 4 weeks paid sabbatical upon achieving 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years' service.
* CPD allowances.
* Private Healthcare via Vitality.
* Occupational Health Services.
* Free eye test vouchers and money towards your glasses for VDU users.
* Food at work provisions for all colleagues.
* Enhanced Maternity/Paternity leave.
* Paid emergency/compassionate leave.
* Occupational sickness pay.
* Colleague discount scheme for up to 5 registered pets.
How to Apply:
If you’re looking for a rewarding and varied role where you can continue to grow your veterinary career while enjoying the support of a wider team, we’d love to hear from you!
