About the Role
Based at our Camborne campus, we are looking for a positive-minded person to support individual learners or small groups of learners in the achievement of their learning goals, the development of independent life and employability skills. This may be as part of an in-class support deployment or could come in the form of targeted interventions planned specifically to address the needs of young people, on a one-to-one basis.
The Learning Support Practitioner will support learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with a focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) across a wide range of curriculum areas. The challenges these young people face may range from wellbeing issues to physical disabilities, and the role will involve working with a variety of young people. You must be familiar with supporting learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, or be willing to learn about this.
Skills & Experience
Experience of working in pre-16 post-16 education, supporting Literacy and Numeracy, and knowledge of general curriculum is desirable. The role will include supporting learners with the development of social and independent life skills. This may be across college during lunch breaks and in some instances may involve elements of personal care.
It is desirable that you are qualified to level 2 or above in Literacy and Numeracy, or willing to work towards this. Level 1 BSL or Makaton, or any other SEND or SEMH-related training or qualifications are also desirable. Applicants may also be considered based on significant skills within a vocational area, as part of strengths-based support deployment.
Hours of Work
This role is on a term-time basis; 15 hours per week. Term-time only 36 weeks per year.
