Job Spec:
The Senior Engineer (C) – Electrical Engineering (ICPDS) shall provide support to the Principal Engineers and/or external specialists during development, analysis, integration and verification of platform internal communications and data networking systems. The Senior Engineer shall be involved in leading analysis and production of technical reports and team deliverables.
Platform Physical Design and Installation Services provides a key role in physically integrating Integrated Combat Systems Equipment onto our Royal Navy Submarine Fleet. As a Principle Engineer Mechanical you will be expected to provide SQEP Electrical Engineering Support ensuring our designs function as intended, are safe and fit for purpose.
Typical Duties Include:
1. Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
2. Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme.
3. Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
4. Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence and justifications.
5. Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
6. Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation.
7. Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
8. Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
9. Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
10. Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems.
11. Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
12. Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management.
13. Review of Integrated combat designs and their platform interfaces providing SQEP feedback in terms of Mechanical design (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic) in the Naval/Marine domain.
14. Examples of tasking will include reviewing and providing guidance against: Interface and Installation Guidance Information, Design Information to support Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Final Design Reviews packs, Foran/CADS5 model to support part approvals, suppliers manufacturers data packs, etc.
15. Production of CS Mechanical design interface information, e.g. Interface and Installation Guidance Information.
16. Taking ownership of specific Mechanical design issues and managing Integrated Combat System, Platform (In build & in service) stakeholders and external partners in providing and implementing design solutions.
17. Producing Engineering Drawings in FORAN/CADS5/Viso.
18. Performing Engineering calculations (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic) to support design-proving activities, as required.
