Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled Fire and Security Systems Engineer with experience in servicing, fault-finding, replacement, and repair of fire alarm systems and emergency lighting. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and solving issues, performing installations, and ensuring that all work is conducted according to the latest industry standards. Key Responsibilities
* Perform fault-finding, repairs, and maintenance on fire detection, alarm, and emergency lighting systems, ensuring compliance with current standards (e.g., BS5839-1, BS5266-1).
* Work with a range of systems including access control, intercom, Nurse Call systems, and occasionally CCTV and intruder alarms.
* Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for all fire and security systems.
* Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for out-of-hours support (24/7/365).
* Install, commission, and repair conventional and analogue addressable fire alarm systems with high standards of workmanship.
* Maintain an understanding of regulatory, fair trading, and competition rules, with an emphasis on security and confidentiality.
* Protect customer assets and sensitive information, report potential security or health and safety risks, and ensure adherence to site conditions.
* Proven experience in the fire industry with service and repair work on conventional and addressable fire systems from various manufacturers.
* In-depth knowledge of Nurse Call systems (Intercall, C-Tec, SAS) and understanding of Emergency Lighting systems to BS5266-1 standards.
* Familiarity with Access Control and Intercom systems (Paxton, RGL, Fermax, Videx) and an advantage for CCTV and Intruder knowledge.
* Good installation practices in line with BS7671 standards and understanding of integration of detection systems (e.g., interfaces and shutdowns).
* FIA certification or industry-standard qualifications in line with RRO-2005 for competency.
Desirable Qualifications
* Knowledge of fire alarm systems such as Advanced, Kentec, C-Tec, Apollo, Hochiki, Gent by Honeywell, and VESDA.
* Experience with access control systems and emergency lighting (ICEL accredited is advantageous).
* Background in electrical or electronic systems and broad knowledge of fire products.
