Description
An opportunity has arisen for a talented, newly qualified accountant to join Breedon’s group finance team based at Breedon-on-the-Hill, near East Midlands Airport. The opportunity has arisen due to expansion of the group financial accounting team.
The role has exposure to the Group CFO and could ultimately act as a springboard into more senior finance roles within the group for an ambitious individual. Knowledge of accounting standards, an eye for detail and strong communication skills (written and verbal) are all important to the role.
Breedon Group plc is a FTSE 250 construction materials group in Great Britain, Ireland and the United States employing around 4,500 people. It operates two cement plants and an extensive network of quarries, asphalt plants and ready-mixed concrete plants, together with slate production, concrete and clay products manufacturing, contract surfacing and highway maintenance operations.
The Group is highly acquisitive and the role would be involved in accounting for any business transactions correctly. In 2020 it completed the £178 million acquisition of trade and assets from Cemex which follows £455 million acquisition of Lagan Group in 2018 and the £336 million acquisition of Hope Construction Products in 2016, alongside various smaller transactions. In March 2024, Breedon expanded into the USA with the acquisition of BMC Enterprises Inc for USD$300 million. In March 2025, Breedon expanded further into the US market with the acquisition of Lionmark Construction Companies LLC for USD$238 million.
Key Responsibilities
* Support on preparation of the Group Annual Report and Interim Financial Report;
* Support on areas of technical accounting impacting the group, including any projects in relation to new financial standards;
* Support with co-ordination and management of the external audit process;
* Support on the fair value process for acquisitions, along with support during the integration process;
* Support on the subsidiary accounts process including preparation of subsidiary accounts for an array of companies;
* Assist in month end accounting for head office companies, including ownership of smaller entities; Cash flow forecasting for Group Companies Balance sheet reconciliations;
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
* Newly qualified accountant (ACA)
* An excellent communicator, both written and verbal
* Adopts a ‘can do’ attitude and works well with others in a team environment
* Ability to deliver work to deadlines and organise/prioritise workload
* Strong technical accounting skills
* Strong IT skills
* Big 4 background preferred
