This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a project team responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Electricity Transmission and Distribution Projects (33 kV and above). This will include but is not limited to Structure Foundations, Conductors and Conductor Systems, Structural Design both concept and detailed design.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Undertake and be responsible for the design and specification of steel overhead line structures and overhead line design systems.
* Take responsibility for project management and ensure the achievement of all deliverables in a timely manner, including financial management and attending site meetings where appropriate.
* Lead the Project Design Team and provide engineering design support to the development team during NDP4.2 (Select Option) and 4.3 (Develop and Sanction), including advice regarding the need for other specialist resources.
* Co-ordinate the FEED process and ensure communication and co-ordination between designers.
* Ensure a Design Programme is prepared, maintained & implemented.
* Take responsibility for all Health and Safety and CDM issues arising on projects and lead the development of OHL designs ensuring compliance with legislation.
* Provide technical expertise to the company, reviewing and developing company systems and provision of technical training including mentoring of Junior Engineers.
* Monitor and manage all design activities, verifying all work undertaken by your design teams and ensuring compliance with company Quality Procedures.
* Provide site supervision and verify proposed work procedures, designs, drawings, and method statements prior to work commencing.
* Provide guidance and training as appropriate, including mentoring of design team(s).
* Responsible for the development of preliminary and detailed design and delivery of projects by leading the technical aspects of overhead lines and all associated equipment including Foundation, Conductors, Conductor Systems, Structural Design.
* Analyse client specifications and agree design requirements.
* Design safe systems, ensuring they can be supplied and constructed according to customer requirements and current practices.
* Provide calculations and reports to justify design results.
* Liaise with clients to ensure satisfactory progress and quality.
* Take responsibility for the delivery of a portfolio of Structural OHL projects, ensuring adherence to quality, time, and budget, as well as relevant standards and client specifications.
* Prepare schedules of activities, scheme budgets, scheme fees, target costs, and project programmes.
* Consult with Line Manager/Accounts Department for payment applications to clients.
* Accept ownership of work and manage the work undertaken by design teams under your direction.
* Coordinate submission of design drawings to approving authorities and ensure successful acceptance in accordance with LSTC QA procedures.
* Keep all records and supporting documentation necessary to substantiate personal performance.
* Ensure all designs are completed accurately and the design office is working to the latest specifications.
* Submit monthly progress reports to the Line Manager.
* Coordinate and liaise with all other departments, external agencies, and authorities to ensure all design work is in accordance with the client's agreed brief and programme.
* Ensure design reviews take place and that work is completed according to the delivery programme.
* Prepare tender costs and advise on timescales/lead times.
* Prepare work instructions and evaluate information for work packs.
* Responsible for delivering Conceptual and Detailed Design solutions.
* Liaise with LSTC Engineers and Clients to ensure satisfactory progress and quality.
* Write Project Reports as required.
* Monitor project hours and costs against budgets.
* Ensure all drawings are completed accurately to the latest specifications.
* Support and contribute to LSTC databases, knowledge pools, and resource libraries.
* Carry out reasonable duties as directed by Line Manager or Nominated Director.
* People Management/Staff Development:
* Monitor and evaluate progress of others to build a high-performing team with clear responsibilities.
* Mentor staff on overhead line systems, construction techniques, and design software.
* Conduct staff reviews and complete necessary documentation.
* Deputise as/Lead weekly/monthly Team meetings.
* Systems/Process Development:
* Develop design processes and OHL training manuals/modules.
* Provide PLS CADD and PLS Tower training and review models.
* Ensure a robust QA system of PLS checking and approval is maintained.
* Monitor current systems and recommend changes to enhance quality or efficiency.
* Quality Systems and Health & Safety:
* Produce all CDM documentation and may act as Principal Designer when appointed by Client.
* Provide reports to demonstrate all work complies with the client’s brief.
* Ensure all QA environmental and Safety Documentation is prepared in accordance with company procedures.
* Prepare and maintain documentation to comply with all company procedures and health and safety legislation.
* Liaise with the QA team on issues regarding standards and documentation.
* Work on or coordinate other aspects of projects, such as constructability, access, civil, geotechnical, rail, survey, etc., as agreed with Line Manager.
Qualifications:
* A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related engineering discipline, such as Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. A-level or equivalent in Maths.
* Aspirations for or working towards membership of a relevant professional body, such as MICE, MIStructE, MIET.
Experience:
* Competent in the use of industry software such as PLS CADD, PLS Tower, SAPS or other similar packages. Working knowledge of relevant national and industry standards such as BS EN 50341, the ENATS suite, and client-specific standards. Typically, 2 years minimum post-graduate industry experience.
* 3 – 5 years’ experience with National Grid OHL projects, or 5 – 10 years’ general OHL industry experience in the UK.
