Role Summary
The post holder will be required to work autonomously as well as part of the immediate MDT and larger teams participating in the Acute Oncology Pathway.
You will give advice, instigate investigations, and implement patient care as appropriate to manage the patient, supporting the patients and their loved ones throughout the pathway.
You will provide essential communication to improve patient experience and quality of care, reducing lengths of stay and avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions.
You will support the existing AO MDT in the planning and development of the future service in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures, utilising the most effective resources.
Alongside the AO MDT, you will provide specialist advice and education to health professionals regarding patients’ symptoms or side effects, acute presentations related to the treatment or cancer to improve outcomes and quality of life.
About the Role
The Oncology and Haematology services have been successful in gaining a significant financial investment, increasing the head count by additional posts across the multi-disciplinary team. This significant investment recognises the increase in activity and provides significant opportunities across the Multi-disciplinary workforce.
The Acute Oncology Team is looking for a CNS to join this dynamic multidisciplinary team. The team is evolving and developing supported by investment, consisting of CNS, AP’s, Physicians Associates, Medics, and Admin. The team seeks a self-motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic, patient-focused nurse with recent oncology/haematology/specialist palliative care experience, to help maintain the delivery of high-quality care to patients referred to our team.
As a CNS, you will be required to continually develop the non-medical workforce while ensuring patients are holistically assessed, providing supportive care to improve their cancer experience and quality of life.
You will be an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team working across the whole patient pathway. This will incorporate supporting the patient as required throughout their oncological/haematological pathway. You will be expected to work within the team as well as autonomously, prioritising and managing your caseload and time appropriately.
The AO service operates seven days a week. Currently, it is provided by the SACT triage nurses at the weekend; once the team has expanded, there will be a requirement to work occasional weekends.
Interview Date: To Be Confirmed
