Job Title : General Cover Teacher (Ad-hoc) Location : Coventry, West Midlands, UK Job Type : Ad-hoc, Temporary Start Date : Immediate Job Description: We are seeking a flexible, reliable, and enthusiastic General Cover Teacher to join a secondary school in Coventry on an ad-hoc basis. As a cover teacher, you will be stepping into classrooms across a range of subjects to deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the regular teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy variety in their teaching and have the ability to quickly adapt to new subjects and classrooms. Key Responsibilities: Deliver Pre-Planned Lessons : Teach lessons across various subjects, including English, Maths, Science, and Humanities, according to the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher. Classroom Management : Ensure students are focused and engaged by maintaining a positive, well-managed classroom environment. Manage student behavior effectively in line with school policies. Student Support : Assist students with their tasks as needed, offering guidance and helping them stay on track with their learning. Provide additional support to students with specific needs where appropriate. Supervision and Monitoring : Supervise and monitor student progress during activities, tests, and coursework. Report any issues, concerns, or feedback to relevant staff members. Flexible Availability : Be available for ad-hoc cover work, sometimes on short notice, across different year groups and subjects. Communication : Maintain clear communication with colleagues and leadership, reporting any issues or feedback on students or lessons. Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (preferred but not essential). Experience working with secondary school students (ages 11-16) is preferred. Ability to deliver lessons across a variety of subjects (specialism in English, Maths, or Science is a bonus). Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a productive and positive classroom environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly with students and staff. Flexibility and adaptability to work across different subjects and year groups. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one). Desirable Skills: Specialism in particular subjects (e.g., English, Maths, Science) is a plus but not essential. Previous experience in cover teaching or working in secondary schools is advantageous. Ability to engage and motivate students, particularly in a cover role.
