To contribute to underwriting discussions and the development of the underwriting team while demonstrating expertise in underwriting across all products and categories within the portfolio.
Main Responsibilities:
* Take ownership of underwriting accounts as allocated by the Portfolio Underwriter.
* Build and maintain relationships with brokers and members, addressing day-to-day underwriting issues.
* Drive the development of new business inquiries and ensure the retention of existing members, adhering to underwriting guidelines.
* Assist in the creation and implementation of portfolio strategies that align with regional and business objectives.
* Formulate insurance terms and conditions while maintaining a thorough understanding of underwriting guidelines and ensuring strict compliance.
* Manage all aspects of the underwriting process, including contract review, survey analysis, administration, data accuracy, and service delivery.
* Ensure timely preparation for all renewals, with a focus on vulnerable accounts, and liaise with the Portfolio Underwriter to establish strategies.
* Oversee premium collection and collaborate closely with credit control to ensure compliance.
* Support the development and mentorship of junior team members.
* Ensure that all documentation, including policies and debit notes, is accurate, timely, and adheres to Contract Certainty guidelines.
* Maintain a working knowledge of policy wordings and institute cargo clauses.
* Collaborate with claims executives to monitor portfolio trends and address claims developments.
* Facilitate the distribution of loss prevention materials and contribute to ongoing service improvements for members and brokers.
* Review management information (MI) data to ensure all underwriting administration is accurate and completed promptly.
* Oversee the placement of facultative reinsurance (RI), ensuring approval and accuracy of cover.
* Ensure consistent and effective use of underwriting systems.
Person Specification:
* 5+ years within Marine Insurance
* Strong understanding of underwriting policies, risk assessment, and technical processes across all products and categories.
* Effective communicator with excellent listening and interpersonal skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
* Analytical mindset with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
* Team player with leadership potential, able to mentor and support junior colleagues.
* Willingness and ability to travel as required.
* Excellent presentation and customer service skills.
* Proficiency in underwriting systems, data management, and Microsoft Office tools.
* Commitment to professional development, ideally working towards the Advanced Certificate in Insurance (ACII).
