The Gatsby Plant Science Education Programme (GPSEP) delivers a diverse and ambitious portfolio of UK-wide online and in-person engagement activities to both inspire and nurture the next generation of plant scientists. We are based at the welcoming and collaborative environment of the Sainsbury Laboratory with our office situated in the Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
About the role:
The Communication & Project Manager for Higher Education will jointly oversee initiatives for post-16 and undergraduate audiences. This exciting and creative role would suit an experienced plant science professional. You will work closely with members of the GPSEP team and external consultants to design and deliver ambitious student engagement projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Leading the development of new resources for the Plant Science Futures website designed to enthuse post-16 audiences across the UK with plant biology.
2. Liaising with plant scientists and plant science organisations to develop careers materials reflecting the breadth of opportunities in plant science.
3. Establishing new networks and partnerships to further the goals of the programme.
4. Supporting the coordination of the prestigious Gatsby Plant Science summer schools for undergraduates including development, delivery and evaluation.
5. Supporting alumni of the summer schools with a strategic programme of communications and career-enhancing opportunities including online events.
6. Overseeing the promotion, facilitation and evaluation of careers engagement via our social media channels aimed at 16-19 year olds in the UK.
7. Capturing the short and long term impacts of all activities, enabling you to strategically respond to the audiences' changing needs and feed into future programme activities.
What you will need:
1. Degree level education (or equivalent level of professional experience) in a plant science discipline.
2. Proven ability communicating to audiences via conventional, online and social media platforms.
3. Experience of running education and or engagement events in a professional environment.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of the UK Higher Education system.
5. An interest in plant science education.
Further information:
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 6 months in the first instance. It is being offered at 0.4 FTE (equivalent to two days per week). Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are welcome. The position is available from October 2024. Interviews will be held in late October. The post is offered to internal candidates only on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.

Expected salary: £33,966 – £44,263 per year
