The Part Time Library Associate is responsible for the day-to-day public services of the Butler Andover 5000 Library, part of Butler Libraries & Archives. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service to library users; maintaining and demonstrating skills and knowledge of library resources and technology to students; maintaining library social media accounts; performing collection, facility, and administrative duties; coordinating student workers; and accomplishing any other duties requested by the Research & Instruction Librarian.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills:
1. Knowledge of Library Management System, including catalog functions, searching, checking in-out, placing holds, serials.
2. Knowledge of how to conduct research within the library, skills in sharing that knowledge with students.
3. Knowledge of the operation of electronic databases, general computer office programs.
4. Knowledge of the library’s resources in academic and vocational areas.
5. Skills in organizing tasks, communicating effectively, and giving instructions.
6. Skills to learn and interpret rules and procedures set by the Library Director and the institution.
7. Skills assisting and communicating effectively, patiently and courteously with co-workers, students, staff, faculty, and other community members.
8. Skills in exercising sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality, taking initiative, and being flexible and professional at all times.
9. Technical skills with computers, software, and specialty reference resources and tools.
Required Experience:
1. Experience performing various clerical tasks using computer technology.
2. Experience performing research within a library, using a wide variety of library resources.
3. Knowledge and familiarity with creating and posting content on various social media platforms.
4. Supervisory experience preferred.
