Thispost is for a locum post for a period of six months. It is a 10 PA locum appointment for aConsultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. Thispost will be offered with a six-month contract.
Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric anaesthetic team at theLeeds Childrens hospital (LGI site) in Leeds.
Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation in the FRCA in the Royal Collegeof Anaesthetics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register, orwithin six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currentlyin a training programme within the UK or have references which have beenauthorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicantsshould have established skills in paediatric anaesthesia and have undertaken atleast 12 months advanced training in this area.Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment toteaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
Towork with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensiveAnaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
Todevelop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
Tomaintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already establishedwithin the Trust.
Tosupport service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes inclinical practice and new technologies available.
Toparticipate in and progress Clinical Governance.
TheTrust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with theUniversity of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and allConsultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriatecontribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
Thepost-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teachingprogramme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organisedon a speciality or clinical area basis.
Thepost-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliverappropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract withthe NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.
Theappointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teachingof postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in anaesthesia inthe Yorkshire Deanery

3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
General Training and Qualifications
Theappointee must hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetistsor equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training or equivalent ifcurrently in a training programme within the UK. Applicants should have completed arecognised training programme in Anaesthesia

Applicantsmust provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevantRoyal College at the time of application, in order for their application to beprogressed further.

Theappointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience andcompetence in all aspects of anaesthesia and appropriate experience inpaediatric anaesthesia. It is desirable that the candidates have experience inthe conduct of clinical trials.

Clinical Audit
Theappointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the leadin the following
Mortality and morbidity meetings
Clinical audit programmes
Development and application of agreedclinical guidelines.
Thisis to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supportingprogrammed activity. It would beexpected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at therelevant departmental audit meetings and that such attendance would be recordedin accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy.
Inthe discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected tomaintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuingmedical education.
4. TEACHING

5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
Thejob plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Directoror Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. Theremay be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities,accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to changesignificantly within the area.
Proposed Job Plan
Thepost consists of 10 PAs with PAs of direct clinical care DCC and PA ofsupporting professional activity SPA. These 10 PAs will be delivered in anaesthesia.
Thisjob plan will fit together with colleagues jobplans with a careful rota ofclinical sessions, to ensure robust cover.
Accountability
Thepostholder is managerially accountable for the use of resources to the ChiefExecutive and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer throughClinical Directors. This may be amendedin the light of the Trusts management arrangements.
Standards of Conduct and Behaviour
He/shewill be required to work to the standards set out by the General MedicalCouncil in Good Medical Practice. Thisincludes protecting patients when you believe that a doctors or other colleaguesconduct, performance or health is a threat to them.
If,after establishing the facts, it is necessary, you must follow the Trustsprocedures in this matter and inform your Clinical Director or Medical Directorin the first instance.
Yourgeneral conduct at work should comply with the standards set out in the Trustsdocument on Appraisal, in particular the section on Core Behaviours.
Consultant Appraisal
Appraisalwill be a contractual requirement for all consultant staff and the Trustattaches considerable importance to this approach intended to be of benefit toindividual consultants and to achieve the highest possible standards in thedelivery of healthcare and services.Arrangements for annual appraisal will be managed through the medicaldirector for workforce
Leave Arrangements
Allleave should be applied for in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy,normally giving six weeks notice of any leave, other than in exceptionalcircumstances.
Training
Duringthe course of your employment, you agree to undergo whatever training the Trustdeems necessary. You will undertake allmandatory training required for the role.This may include, but is not limited to, induction training,professional development and safe working practices. Funding of such training will be in accordancewith the Trusts Staff Development Policy.
Continuing Medical Education
TheTrust fully supports the requirement for CME by the relevant Royal College andacknowledges that it is an essential component of a consultants professionalactivities that will be reviewed during the appraisal process andrevalidation. Time and financial supportfor these activities will be granted in accordance with the Trusts LeavePolicy.
Secretarial Support
Aspart of the resource commitments to enable the postholder to fulfil their jobplan, the appointee will have access to such secretarial assistance as isrequired. An office with IT facilities PC, email etc will be provided.
