Many students in Alternative Provisions (APs) and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) due to challenges such as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Traditional school settings may not always meet their needs, but with the right support, these students can re-engage with learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.
Teaching Personnel is looking for a compassionate, patient, and proactive Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school/PRU in Salford. These settings focus on small class sizes, structured routines, and therapeutic approaches to help students thrive both academically and personally.
Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support, helping students stay engaged with learning.
* Use strategies for emotional regulation and behavior management, such as Zones of Regulation and de-escalation techniques.
* Support students with ASD and ADHD by using visual aids, structured routines, and sensory-based learning approaches.
* Assist with communication and social interaction, incorporating tools like PECS and alternative communication methods.
* Encourage independent thinking, self-confidence, and resilience, helping students prepare for life beyond school.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people, in either a professional or personal capacity.
* Understanding of SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or trauma-informed practice (desirable but not essential).
* A calm, patient, and adaptable approach, with the ability to build trusting relationships.
* Commitment to safeguarding and supporting student well-being.
