SENIOR ESTIMATING ENGINEER
PURPOSE
To carry out and oversee the efficient and effective provision of estimates for BGEN projects in order to win profitable contracts.
LOCATION
Based at Warrington/ St Helens
Salary - up to £55k dependant on experience.
Our client is one of the UKs largest multidisciplinary design and build contractors with over 100 years of industry experience. With expertise in supporting blue chip clients in the Water, Power & Energy, Pharmaceutical and Food and Beverage industries, they are at the forefront of value-added engineering. Based at our St Helens or Warrington office but there will be a requirement to travel to clients' sites where live site works are taking place.

ORGANISATION
The job holder shall report to the Estimating Director.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. To carry out the initial technical and contractual review of the tender enquiry.
2. To prepare the estimate in a logical and precise manner following QA procedures and utilising the computerised estimating package and Microsoft Word / Excel.
3. To obtain competitive quotations from Suppliers / Subcontractors for project estimates.
4. To carry out take-offs in a manner that will provide as much detail as possible for the purpose of tender reviews prior to tender submission and to assist in the financial control of a contract should the tender be successful.
5. To liaise with internal Divisions / Departments to obtain relevant quotations and information for tender.
6. To attend site visits and tender review meetings with clients (UK and overseas).
7. To attend kick-off meetings to brief the project team should the tender be successful.
8. To oversee and advise Estimating Engineers, thus ensuring completeness and timely submission of tenders.
SPECIAL FEATURES
1. The Estimating Department provides a specialist service for the whole of the client's group; therefore, the Job Holder must have a good knowledge of all of the Group's activities and capabilities.
2. The Job Holder must have the ability to assess the quality of User Requirements, Scope, Specification, and Design in order to qualify the basis of estimation.
3. The Job Holder must have a good knowledge of all aspects of contractual arrangements and estimating practice.
4. The Department interfaces with all Divisions, Sales and Marketing, Sites, and Clients; therefore, the Job Holder must have excellent interpersonal skills.
5. The nature of the incoming workload is unpredictable and usually has imposed deadlines; therefore, the Job Holder must possess excellent organisational skills, flexibility, and the ability to often work under considerable time pressure.
6. The Job Holder shall have a willingness to undertake an annual performance 1 to 1 review, to attend and have an active participation in all internal and external training courses.
PROFILE
Qualifications
Appropriate discipline qualifications i.e. HNC, ONC or City and Guilds.
Considerable experience in estimating packages of work to the standards required within the chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, utilities, and food & drink type of industries.
Skills and Knowledge
Good knowledge of current relevant Estimating and Commercial practice.
Good knowledge of engineering practices.
Good knowledge of project management practices.
Good knowledge of HSE systems and compliance.
Good knowledge of QA systems and compliance.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients.
High level of computer literacy.
