Your New Company This secondary school is based in the Blackburn area and, due to an upcoming maternity leave, they have approached Hays seeking an IT Technician to join their well-established team on a 12-month contract. Based in the Blackburn area, the school is easily accessible from East Lancashire and via the M65 motorway, with free parking on site. As part of a larger academy trust, the IT Technician on site will also join the wider IT team where they will be supported by experienced colleagues from the central team and in other schools. Your new role Based at this secondary school in central Blackburn, your primary responsibility will be to provide IT support to both pupils and staff, ensuring that this allows staff to provide a high quality of teaching and learning whilst using modern technologies. On a daily basis, this will involve supporting and managing both software and hardware, with duties including the installation and updating of both hardware and software, procurement of IT consumables, ensuring costs are within budgets, maintaining an inventory of IT resources and providing support to staff and pupils around the use of IT equipment. In addition, you will be responsible for the management of the school IT network, working closely with the central IT team, with duties including the regular back-up of data, ensuring audits of network storage capacity and ensuring that all network and IT resources are kept safe and being used in line with school policies. As the IT Technician in school, this is a user-facing role where you will interact daily with end users, predominantly in a face-to-face support role, and it is therefore important that you are always providing a high level of customer service and building positive relationships. This is a maternity cover, running from November through until the end of the academic year. What You'll Need To Succeed In order to be successful in securing this position, you must possess first line IT support experience having recently worked in a support role where you have supported both hardware and software, with experience working in the education sector being beneficial. You will be available to start a new role in November, with the availability to commit to a long-term position through until August 2025. Strong communication skills, as well as customer service and relationship building skills are also essential.
