Key responsibilities of the role:
As a baker you will be a vital part of our incredible team. You will be working closely with our other baker and owner of the business to ensure that we baking some incredible bagels, the production is running smoothly, the team are motivated and raring to go, and the quality of our produce is top notch.
You’ll play a role in innovation, new ideas and new menu items. Ideally you would have had at least 3 years experience as a baker in a professional environment and are confident with everything to with bagel baking.
Your responsibilities include:
• Responsible for overseeing the daily production of bagels + other baked goods
at the bakery
• Working closely with other bakery team members to ensure a smooth +
efficient daily baking production
• Prepare + present bagels + schmear’s products, following our recipes +
specifications. This will include, but is not limited to: Prepare the ovens +
equipment ready for baking. Measuring + weight of wet + dry ingredients.
Using mixers to blend ingredients. Kneading + shaping of dough. Following
procedures for dough rising + resting.
• Responsible for maintaining quality + consistency in taste, presentation +
appearance according to recipes + pictures; with discrepancies being rectified
immediately.
• Adhere to all health + safety requirements, including food hygiene regulations
• Keep the kitchen clean, safe + up to a high standard following our cleaning
practices
• You innovate with the baking production and menu, coming up with new ideas
for the menu and in the production to increase quality and efficiency
• You make sure that stock and ingredients are looked after, stored correctly and
reorders when necessary. You also inform the Manager of any changes that
need to be made to ordering quantities and standing orders.
• You keep on top of your share of administrative tasks and record keeping, as
well as making sure the team do the same.
What experience and traits for you need for this role?
• Have at least three year’s experience of baking in a professional environment
• You drive + ideally, live close to the bakery (WD7 8PH). There is no direct
public transport links nearby.
• Be methodical and diligent and have a good attention to detail
• Comfortable with early morning shifts (starting at 4am)
• Reliable with a strong work ethic
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced
environment
• Ability to lift up to 25kg and stand for extended periods of time.
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends and holidays as
needed.

About Us:
bagels + schmear is a lockdown success story! Starting in 2020, with our founder Francesca baking New York-style bagels from her mother’s kitchen after having the realisation that no one was doing bagels in the UK the ‘proper New York way’. New York-style bagels are different to the bagels you find in the delis in + around London – they are crisp on the outside, pillowy + fluffy on the inside. Starting merely as a side hustle alongside her full-time job, she took bagels + schmear full time, opened up a bakery in Radlett, Hertfordshire + now supplies some of the most prestigious hotels, cafes, restaurants + shops in London.
