The Psychology Older Adult Mental Health Service is very pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for 1 full-time Band 5 Low Intensity Psychological Therapy Practitioner position to work in the acute and community mental health setting. The base will be Bronglais General Hospital/Canolfan Rheidol, Aberystwyth. The successful applicant will work alongside other Low Intensity Psychological Therapy Practitioners based across the three counties. There will be opportunity for peer support and clinical supervision.
The post-holder needs to demonstrate drive, commitment, and compassion for improving psychological needs of older people with mental health difficulties, including people and their carers living with dementia.
This is an exciting time to join our service as it embarks on transformative ways to deliver and evaluate psychological interventions to older people on the acute psychiatric ward and in the Community Mental Health Team.
The post-holder needs to demonstrate innovation and motivation to support the implementation of this plan. They must be able to work independently and have excellent IT skills to support the existing service.
This is an ideal opportunity to work with older clinical populations across both acute and community settings. It would suit anyone wishing to pursue a career in clinical psychology or mental health.
Main duties of the job
1. Under the supervision of Clinical Psychologists/ Registered Psychological Therapists: To undertake psychologically informed assessments of clients using psychological tools, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.
2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of low-level interventions, including individual and group formats, to inpatients on the acute psychiatric ward and outpatients in the CMHT.
3. To assist in the administration and scoring of questionnaires and the collation of data (psychometrics).
4. Development of clinical reports and correspondence to referrer, for review by supervisor.
5. To assist to develop, facilitate/ co-facilitate and evaluate group therapy initiatives.
6. To contribute to service audit, service evaluation or research, as appropriate.
7. To be highly accessible and visible across the inpatient ward and CMHT, actively integrating into the teams and contributing to MDTs.
8. To assist in supporting team formulations, reflective space and teaching/ training.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
* HCPC/NMC registrant (as defined to be able to undertake assessments under Part 1 Mental Health Measure) With degree (or equivalent) OR Psychology Degree, eligible for Graduate Membership of BPS and successfully completed academic course of study/supervised practice in NHS settings or equivalent, in line with Matrics Cymru competencies/standards for low intensity psychological interventions /qualified as a PTP OR Psychological therapist, working towards accreditation with an appropriate body meeting the criteria for CfWI Psychological Therapist OR Have extensive experience in working with people with mental health conditions and have completed formal training in the delivery of low intensity psychological therapies as designated in Matrics Cymru Demonstrates an understanding of common mental health conditions.
* Demonstrates an understanding of the need to use evidence-based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
* Good understanding of the Mental Health Measure Part 1 and 2, Matrics Cymru and the Psychological Therapies Plan (2017).
Desirable
* Demonstrates knowledge of societal issues and the impact it can have on mental health.
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems and their effects.
