We are currently recruiting for a Livestock Buyer to join our Procurement team at McIntosh Donald.
This is a home-based role which involves travelling around Scotland in order to support our site, McIntosh Donald.
Role Purpose
Purchasing of livestock by achieving the best price for procurement of suitably graded cattle to meet weekly production targets.
Role Requirements
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers (including farmers, auctioneers and other third parties), demonstrating their commitment to consistent ethical standards, good practice and Kepak values.
* Procure and maintain an adequate supply of suitably graded livestock (cattle and sheep).
* Inspect livestock on location to ensure good health and animal welfare obligations are met.
* Provide advice for the proper care of livestock, leading to more successful production.
* Estimate animal value and negotiate pricing with suppliers in line with agreed business rates.
* Arrange post-purchase transportation of animals to site.
* Maintain extensive knowledge on reliable suppliers in the region.
* Keep current on animal supply and overall market conditions and trends.
* Maintain records of all transactions.
* Understand and maintain knowledge on appropriate pricing levels.
* Continuously seek out opportunities for livestock acquisition.
* Liaise with industry bodies, including FSS, vets, suppliers and hauliers to support effective operations and production.
* Develop and provide insight on competitors’ actions, such as buying trends, and inform Procurement Team and/or Site Manager.
* Any other duties as required by management and within the competency of the post holder.

* Degree in livestock-related subject or equivalent desirable but not essential.
* Some practical experience in livestock management – cattle.
* IT literate, experience of databases and CRM systems.

* Clean driving licence and ability to undertake travel within UK and to ROI as required.
* Ability to be assertive, proactive and to manage own workload.
* Commitment to good practice.
* Fluent English, ability to communicate well in written and oral form with multi-nationals on all levels.
* Ability to multitask and work under own initiative to deliver to deadlines.
* Relationship builder with influencing skills.
* Strong team player.
