Job description
Aspire people are looking to recruit a SEN Teacher to work with one of our Ofsted "Outstanding" specialist schools. They cater to students aged 6 to 19 with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), communication challenges, and sensory needs. The school offers a wide curriculum with a focus on life skills, alongside a wide range of GCSE and BTEC accreditations, and a functional skills/entry level pathway.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and assess a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of students with SEN, including those on a life skills and functional skills pathway.
- Support students to achieve accredited qualifications, including GCSEs, BTECs, and functional skills, as well as develop key life skills.
- Use creative, engaging, and innovative teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students working below age-related expectations.
- Develop and implement tailored learning plans that support both academic and personal development.
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and supportive classroom environment where all students can thrive and reach their full potential.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants, speech therapists, and other specialists, to provide holistic support to students.
- Promote the development of independence, communication, and social skills in all students.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience of teaching students with special educational needs, particularly those on life skills or functional skills pathways.
- Experience of delivering outcomes for secondary-aged students working below age-related expectations.
- Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and how to support students with communication and sensory needs.
- Ability to plan and deliver a creative and engaging curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students.
- High expectations for student achievement and a commitment to supporting all students to reach their full potential.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- A passion for supporting young people with SEN and helping them succeed in both academic and personal development.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in a specialist school setting or with students with ASC.
- Familiarity with accreditation pathways such as GCSEs, BTECs, and functional skills.
- Knowledge of life skills-based curricula and how to incorporate these into teaching and learning.
