The postholder is responsible for supporting the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people with a drive for early intervention, enabling cultural change in the way first contact services can support children and young people with mental health problems. In line with the 2015 Future in Mind strategic vision for CAMHS, the postholder will actively promote resilience, prevention, and early intervention to children and young people in the community.
The postholder will work with the CAMHS liaison practitioners to support children and young people where there is concern about emerging mental health issues or behaviours. They will support the consultation process to the network or directly to the child, young person, and their family.
The postholder will have an identified role as directed by the liaison practitioner, in further assessment, targeted intervention, or group work that would meet the needs of the child or young person. Responsibilities include:
1. Delivering training to community services and schools.
2. Providing assessments, targeted interventions, and advice & support for children & young people.
3. Engaging in direct clinical work with children/young people and their families, including work in schools and other community settings within a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Managing a caseload of children and young people with a focus on early intervention & prevention in line with the I-THRIVE model.
Additional responsibilities include:
1. Consultation with professionals, colleagues, and parent/carers.
2. Working as part of the locality-facing early help pathway to assist children and young people presenting with emerging mental health difficulties.
3. Delivering evidence-based targeted interventions in a timely manner.
4. Contributing to early help assessment clinics to ensure timely assessments and appropriate targeted interventions.
5. Delivering group-based, needs-led groups within school and community settings.
6. Supporting the delivery of evidence-based parenting programmes for children and young people with mental health issues.
7. Representing CAMHS in multi-agency meetings such as EHAT, SEND meetings, or child protection meetings to coordinate and oversee the mental health element of a multi-agency plan around a child.
8. Functioning as a member of the locality-facing CAMHS early help pathway, taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team.
9. Ensuring planned interventions are implemented effectively and evaluated using Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROMS) and minimum data set.
10. Participating in the delivery of training programmes for schools and community services from a portfolio of available CAMHS training.
11. Maintaining standards of care to the highest level within available resources.
Furthermore, the postholder will:
1. Actively participate in line management with senior and junior members of staff.
2. Liaise effectively with the CAMHS pathways across the city.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with statutory and non-statutory providers.
4. Maintain confidentiality in respect of the young people at all times.
Communication is key; the postholder will:
1. Communicate clearly with children and young people, their families, and all other health professional groups about their health problems.
2. Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, e.g., clinical audit, essence of care, or clinical policy development.
3. Encourage children and young people to play a part in decision-making about the help they need and how they can access specific interventions to promote person-centred planning.
4. Provide mentorship for students by being a supervisor/assessor.
