Healthcare Support Workers play a crucial role in all aspects of care delivery for our patients.
You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals from whom you will learn on the job. We provide training to ensure you have the skills for the role and offer development opportunities to realize your career potential. You will be enrolled onto a healthcare support worker induction programme held each month, ensuring you feel supported as you take the first steps into your new career.
Main duties of the job
1. Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately.
2. Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
3. Make unoccupied and occupied beds.
4. Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as required.
5. Wash/bathe patients in bed and in the bathroom.
6. Care for hands and feet of patients in bed.
7. Observe patients' skin and report any red marks or blemishes to nursing staff in charge.
8. Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy.
9. Carry out routine ward procedure for bagging of patients' soiled clothing and ensure relatives are made aware of the need to take away and launder.
10. Escort patients to the toilet.
11. Report faulty equipment in need of repair.
12. Assist with unpacking and checking of stores as required.
13. Report when ward stock is low.
14. Clean and tidy lockers and cupboards.

Person Specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* Functional Skills in English and Maths, (Level 1 or equivalent) at interview assessment, or GCSE A to G.
* National Care Certificate.
* Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care Subject (or willingness to work towards).
EXPERIENCE
* Understands nature of the HCSW role and responsibilities.
* Previous experience in a healthcare environment.
* Evidence of working as a member of a team.
* Experience in a customer-focused environment.
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
* Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely with patients, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team.
* Courteous with patients and others both internal and external.
* Ability to write clearly and legibly in English.
* Understands concept of Confidentiality and standards of conduct and care.
* Ability to use a computer.
* Willingness to undertake the Health and Social Care level 3 apprenticeship.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
* Ability to work agreed shift patterns designed to meet service needs.
* Can demonstrate self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
* Demonstrates some insight into the fundamentals and complexity of care and care delivery.
