Specialty Nurse for the Lung Cancer Screening Programme

The purpose of the role is to facilitate the clinical flow of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme participants. The successful candidate will act as a conduit between the external supplier’s nurses, local medical teams across both primary and secondary care, and screening participants. Working closely with key stakeholders, this role will be central to the delivery and successful implementation of the screening programme. The lead nurse will have clinical oversight of patients on the screening pathway and be responsible for facilitating onward referrals as dictated by the clinical leads.
This is a pivotal clinical leadership role; the Lead Nurse will contribute to Lung Cancer Screening Programme virtual MDT meetings, working closely within the Respiratory Team, responsible assessor, responsible clinician, and radiologist for the programme to facilitate robust assurance and governance processes. They will be a key point of contact between the third-party delivery partners, secondary care, screening participants, and the Peninsula Cancer Alliance Lung Cancer Screening Programme team.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop standards of care and management of patients in the pathway.
2. Work with the Lung Cancer Screening Programme lead consultant to develop policies and processes across the Trust in relation to the delivery of lung cancer screening.
3. Support staff in the investigation of complaints and serious incidents requiring investigation.
4. Attend and involve in local and wider MDT meetings with colleagues from both primary and secondary care.
5. Undertake the appropriate professional portfolio of work in agreement with the Associate Chief Nursing Officer.
6. Lead on nurse-led clinics for the Lung Cancer Screening Programme and work alongside the lead consultant for the programme to see patients in MDT clinic.
7. Ensure professionals involved in screening assessment fulfill the requirements for individual professional training and for their continuing professional development.
8. Support the Lung Cancer Screening Programme coordinator in arranging and coordinating MDT meetings within the Trust and at regional and, where relevant, Network level.
9. Work with the Lung Cancer Screening Programme coordinator to ensure treatment/action plans created are produced and recorded for each patient discussed at the MDT meetings and communicate this information to the relevant professional, and/or in line with the operational policy of the MDT.
