An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 12 at the North Tyneside General Hospital. We require a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team. Ward 12 is an innovative and forward thinking, 23 bedded Care of the Elderly Ward.
We are looking for candidates who have a commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality care is delivered to our patients, as well as being a role model and supporting our junior workforce. On Ward 12 there is a strong focus on multidisciplinary team working, to ensure safe and timely patient discharges or transfers to appropriate care settings.
You will be expected to work as part of a dynamic nursing team, delivering all aspects of care to patients and have excellent communication skills. As part of this role you will be required to coordinate the ward and also support the Ward Manager. The successful candidates will gain a wide range of clinical and managerial experience. Previous experience in a similar setting is desirable, but not essential.
The successful post holder must be able to role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the Trust.
The main purpose of the role is to assist, plan and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the multidisciplinary team under the supervision of the ward manager.
You will also be responsible for the organizing and coordination of the nursing services in the absence of the ward manager, lead a team of nurses and be innovative.
To assume responsibility for the devolved management of a ward/department, including the assessment of care needs, the implementation of evidence-based programme of care in the absence of the Ward Manager.
To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team.
To provide senior nurse site management cover.
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
To act as team leader and coordinate the multi-disciplinary care of a group of patients.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
