The role exists to act as an independent person (not directly associated to a specific engineering group) for all Permits to Work across the Ware manufacturing site, reporting into the Engineering Compliance team. The role provides special focus and expertise in controlling high risk activities related to project works or one-off activities (hot works, work at height, confined space, crane lifting etc). It is imperative in this role that you demonstrate an ability to drive common-thinking, with a complete focus on providing solutions.
We are looking for a motivated person who has a passion for safety and strong experience of working in a complex GMP environment. You will be a qualified engineer (BEng, HND or IEng), with good people-skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supports issuing of permits aligned to site safety procedures.
* Inspection of ongoing works to ensure compliance with the issued permit and conduct daily audits of permits to maintain safe and compliant working.
* Conduct Risk Assessments, including review of RAMS for all work requiring permit to be carried out by 3rd Party Contractors
* Ensure all documents and reports comply with governing legislation, Engineering Standards (ES) and site procedures.
* Provide input, as appropriate, into any investigations arising from non-conformances against site procedures and/or incidents.
* Building strong relationships and collaboration and holding honest and open conversations with both internal and external parties
* Provide ongoing training, coaching & mentoring to Issuers and Receivers across site including the training of local procedures and supervision of on job training.
* Management of the Permit Issuer and Receiver Register and delivery of contractor inductions.
* Support process owner with gap analysis, definition/updating of the relevant standards and site procedures for compliance with Engineering Standards, as well as ensuring adequate feedback/lessons learned from work carried out site.
* Document (through the L1 Audit process) that routine inspections for compliance with site standards is being undertaken.
* Keeping the Permit duty holder informed on a regular basis of progress / developments / issues with the permit process, including attending the quarterly governance meeting.
* Supporting preparation of permits and conducting site visits during the planning of work and isolations ensuring all hazards and controls have been identified and controls in place.
* Management of Permits to Work during the Site Shut-Downs.
* Conduct permit closure walkaround to ensure work areas are left in a safe and tidy condition.
About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form, and the site has circa 1,500 highly-motivated and capable people working at it. The Ware site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in oral and solid dose forms, as well as operating a high-volume commercial production facility for respiratory devices.

Basic Qualifications:
* Relevant Engineering and Safety qualifications (ideally; EngTech or Incorporated Engineer Status – or working towards it).
* Permit and/or safety related knowledge and experience.
* Sound working knowledge of GMP or experience in other highly regulated operational engineering or project delivery team.
* Understanding Quality management and Regulatory Requirements (Safety and Quality) relating to the management of physical infrastructure of a Pharma site and processes.
