The Role
As a Senior Composite Woodworking Craftsperson, you’ll have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will be working within the hydrodynamics team to complete projects involving boat building and composite engineering.
Day-to-day, you’ll support the manufacturing of large-scale research models to a very high standard and within tight tolerances.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Working within a small team and with a variety of materials such as GRP, carbon fibre, wood, plastic, and metal
2. Using a range of hand, power, and machine tools with the aid of some computer-assisted measuring equipment
3. Undertaking detailed quality assurance measurements on bespoke model builds by using a variety of measurement equipment
4. Undertaking health & safety/job-specific training courses to fulfill the role
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and based at our Haslar site.
Essential experience of the Senior Composite Woodworking Craftsperson:
5. Boat/marine engineering experience with a good working knowledge in the construction and assembly of boats and ideally large-scale test models
6. Sound knowledge of all woodwork/composite hand tools/measuring equipment
7. Excellent eye for detail whilst adopting a methodical approach to a variety of tasks and the ability to understand and follow design drawings
8. Using woodworking tools/machines
9. Fully trained and have experience and knowledge in the use of GRP processes
10. A good understanding of job-related health & safety
Qualifications of the Senior Composite Woodworking Craftsperson:
One or more of the following;
11. City & Guilds Level 2-3 in Marine Engineering
12. NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Marine Engineering
13. NVQ Level 3 Boat building
14. Advanced Apprenticeship/Apprenticeship in Boat building
