Could you develop the next generation of Detectives? Are you highly motivated with a passion for supporting and developing those learning their new role? Are you a Detective Sergeant with strong operational skills, empathy for others and the drive to improve investigative resilience?
Yes? Well then we need you!
Surrey Police are looking for 2 substantive, PIP2 accredited, Detective Sergeants to join our PIP2 coaching Units where learner DCs (aka. TDCs) are trained to effectively investigate PIP2 crimes, put victims first and pursue perpetrators, ultimately to protect the public. This is an exciting and varied role in the part of investigations that has been specifically designed to improve the journeys of officers through their accreditation. The impact you will have on these officers during their time on the coaching unit cannot be underestimated.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
You will be part of a team at one of the above locations working alongside another DS, approx. 6 coaches (DCs) and their learners.
You will have line management responsibility for half the team and assume one of the 2 DS roles in the coaching unit – one is the ‘crime’ DS who reviews workloads with learners, runs cases day-to-day, makes disposal / bail and CPS decisions. The other is the ‘programme’ DS who looks after learner welfare, portfolio / accreditation progression, HR and Workforce Planning processes.
Although you will have a primary role (to be agreed at appointment), there will be a significant degree of flex where you will be expected to be able to undertake both roles and swap between them where operationally necessary. Full training and mentoring will be provided to allow you to achieve this.
No matter your primary role, your day to day activities will include ensuring learner welfare and progression, as well as management of coaches to ensure learners are supported to become the best Detectives they can be.
You, and your counterpart DSs across the force (2 in each of the 3 divisions) report into the PIP2 coaching units DI, but also have access to divisional teams as required.
We welcome applications that include ‘non-standard’ or flexible working patterns.
