We are looking for self-starter to serve as Counsel to the Asset Servicing (“AS") business. Our core AS business includes: trust and safekeeping, portfolio and fund accounting, global custody, middle-office outsourcing, transfer agency, sub-accounting, cash management and security movement, participant services, securities lending, foreign exchange, hedge fund administration, performance measurement and analytics, clearing services, online information delivery, and support services for internal investment management. This role is located in London or Manchester and is part of the EMEA Legal team. The candidate who fills this role will be expected to contribute as part of a larger team and to independently advise the business. Experience of and/or interest in fund management, financial institutions practice, technology, digital assets (e.g. cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets), and/or data and analytics, is helpful but not required. This position will require the individual to draft and negotiate a variety of contracts and other related agreements, supported by the wider AS Legal team. The successful candidate will also work closely with business colleagues in evaluating and supporting the implementation of new technologies and business strategies. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: Function as a trusted advisor using knowledge of BNY Mellon's businesses, products, services and/or strategies to articulate and advance legal positions. Demonstrate the ability to handle a broad portfolio of legal issues. Work collaboratively, seeking guidance and input from colleagues throughout the organization to ensure legal solutions align to business strategies. Partner with colleagues who also serve in an advisory or oversight capacity, such as those in Risk, Audit, Compliance, etc. Manage outside counsel, reviewing work for appropriateness, quality and alignment to expectations. Develop a broad understanding of BNY products and services. To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: A qualified Solicitor or Barrister currently licensed to practice in England & Wales with ideally 3-8 years PQE, relevant experience gained from a leading law firm. Prior corporate legal experience within the fund management and/or financial services industry or comparable law firm experience preferred. Transactional experience and contract drafting and negotiation strongly desired. Experience of outsourcing, custody, cross-border activities and/or MiFID is desirable.
