The Opportunity We are seeking talented and innovative Highways Engineers to join our progressive Neighbourhood Traffic and Road Safety Engineering team. Whether you're just starting your engineering career or are an experienced professional, we have roles available at various levels: Engineer Senior Engineer Principal Engineer Lead Engineer Job title and salary will be dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. You'll be instrumental in delivering highway improvement schemes across the district. Based within North Somerset - a region known for its stunning coastline and countryside. You'll work on a wide range of projects, from smaller, locally significant improvements to larger, high-impact schemes. What You'll Be Doing: Managing a caseload of technical projects or inspections to deliver the operational programme. Investigating and preparing funding bids, design and contract documentation, including cost estimates. Developing innovative engineering solutions and contributing to project design and technical expertise. Attending public meetings to provide technical information about schemes and representing the authority. Collaborating effectively with contractors, colleagues, and stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication. This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by the end of 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. About You We're looking for individuals passionate about improving infrastructure to enhance residents' lives. Whether you're experienced or early in your career, we're looking for individuals who possess the following skills and experience: Essential Criteria: Relevant qualifications and experience in civil or highway engineering. Strong project management and organisational skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant IT systems. Knowledge of technical standards, safe working practices, and legislation in highway engineering. Desirable Criteria: Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CEng, IEng, EngTech). Experience supervising and mentoring others in a technical capacity.
