VDOT is seeking a Senior Electronic Technician for the Hampton Roads Harbor Tunnels-Maintenance Division to perform diagnosis, repair, fabrication, installation and maintenance and preventive maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic, electrical, traffic control equipment in the traffic management systems (TMS) at the Eastern Region Operations tunnels and electro-mechanical systems.
Position specific core responsibilities include:
● Operate, troubleshoot, perform and oversee maintenance of bridge-tunnel industrial plant Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Engineering Control systems, in conjunction with Agency and Contract Engineering Staff
● Perform and oversee maintenance of electronic and LAN based control equipment in support of bridge- tunnel Medium Voltage Power Distribution System Switch Gear and SubStation Equipment, in conjunction with Agency and contract engineering Staff
● Operate, troubleshoot, perform and oversee maintenance of bridge tunnel COMM fiber plant, to include all components of fiber communications system, intelligent traffic management system ITS and field devices
● Perform and oversee maintenance of UHF/VHF radio systems, Emergency Re-broadcast systems, over height detection systems, CCTV cameras and display equipment, internal phone systems, PBX equipment, tunnel internal networks, and programmable logic controllers
VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in the electronics field including troubleshooting, circuit analysis and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.
• Experience in traffic signal maintenance and operations to include a variety of traffic control devices.
• Experience applying federal and state regulations and standards related to electronics, electrical equipment, and traffic control equipment maintenance and operations.
• Ability to keep detailed and accurate records.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and apply various levels of electronic theory which requires testing, trouble-shooting, and repair.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting at four levels – system, unit, board, and component levels.
• Ability to perform physical labor tasks.
• Ability to oversee the work of others and plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities.
• Experience performing maintenance and repairs on various analog and digital communications systems (i.e. traffic control systems, ITS systems, equipment control and SCADA systems, and radio communications systems and or other similar systems.)
• Ability to troubleshoot various networks to include SCADA systems and PLC’s.
• Substantial experience in the electronic field to include electronic board and component level repairs. Inventory experience for stocking and tracking inventory.
• Ability to enter and maintain work orders in IMMS system.
• Valid Driver’s License.
Additional Considerations
1. Associates degree in Electronics; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree.
2. Certification in fire alarm systems preferred.
3. F.C.C. Maintenance Technician and other professional certifications

VDOT utilizes a market based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
