A Snapshot of Your Day: The Business Improvement Leader—Engineering is responsible for leading and managing projects that focus on improving products and process performance to meet customer requirements while minimising defects and variability. This role involves applying advanced statistical and quality management techniques to drive innovation, improve product design, and enhance organisational performance.
How You’ll Make an Impact
1. Project Leadership: Led cross-functional teams in Six Sigma / DFSS projects from conception through implementation, ensuring alignment with business goals. Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and develop detailed project plans. Facilitate project meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members.
2. Application of Six Sigma / DFSS Methodologies: Utilise Six Sigma / DFSS methodologies to guide product and process improvement efforts. Conduct Voice of the Customer analysis to gather and prioritise customer requirements. Develop and implement design specifications, performance metrics, and validation plans.
3. Data Analysis and Statistical Tools: Apply advanced statistical tools and techniques (e.g., Design of Experiments, regression analysis, hypothesis testing) to analyse data and inform design decisions. Use software tools (e.g., Minitab) for data analysis and visualisation. Interpret data and provide actionable insights to drive design improvements.
4. Risk Management: Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential design risks and develop mitigation strategies. Implement robust design practices to ensure reliability and performance under varying conditions. Monitor and assess project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
5. Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and other departments to ensure designs meet functional and market requirements. Mentor and train Green Belts and team members in Six Sigma / DFSS principles and tools. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the organisation.
6. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project charters, design specifications, and validation reports. Prepare and present project updates and results to senior management and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements in design processes.
7. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions through innovative design solutions. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to product design and quality management. Lead initiatives to integrate Six Sigma / DFSS principles into the organisation’s quality management system.
What You Bring
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, DFSS certification) is preferred.
* Experience: 5+ years of experience in quality management, product design, or process improvement, focusing on Six Sigma / DFSS methodologies.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab) and design tools (e.g., CAD software).
* Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and facilitation skills.
* Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex data sets and make data-driven decisions.
* Project Management: Experience in managing multiple projects and leading cross-functional teams.
About the Team
Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonisation opportunities through service offerings, modernisation, and digitalisation of the fleet.
