Professional: Assess problems presented opportunistically by patients. Provide continuing care to patients across the practice population. Initiate laboratory requests and collect specimens as required, interpret specified results and act accordingly. Perform holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines and locally agreed formulary. Suture/clip removal. ECG Perform holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear. Advise about vaccinations and injections and ensure they are administered under relevant policies, guidelines, and PGDs.
Adhere to the national childhood immunisation programme. Assist in the provision of minor surgery. Recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines. Be able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines. Obtain and document informed consent (either written or verbal).
Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained. Communicate effectively with other members of the primary health care team. Preserve confidentiality. Any other duties considered relevant to the post.
Managerial: Assist patients to identify their health needs. Maintain accurate records in line with practice policy and NMC Guidelines using appropriate computer software. Contribute to the assessment of service needs. Responsible for the maintenance of equipment and stock control: including refrigeration, vaccine ordering, single use equipment, general treatment room equipment and stock and emergency rugs and equipment.
Contribute a nursing level perspective to the Practice Development Plan. Manage and organise individual patient consultations. Attend staff meetings. Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
Preserve confidentiality of information gained at all times.
Educational: Identify personal development and training needs in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and Practice Manager. Participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and or professional development. Participate fully in practice audit and quality development programmes.
Participate in formal tutorials and informal training of all treatment room trainees, GP trainees and other allied health professionals in the practice.
Management of Chronic Disease: To develop knowledge base and progress in the management of Chronic Disease patients within the primary care setting. Diagnosis, monitoring and development of individual management plans, agreeing these as appropriate with the patients and other health professionals. Checking compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using a holistic patient-centered approach. Recognising abnormalities.
Identifying the impact of treatment and implementing or recommending changes as appropriate.
Research projects: Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice.
Health and Safety: The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include: Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards. Reporting potential risks identified.

To support the organisation in ensuring service users are protected from abuse or the risk of abuse and their human rights are respected and upheld. To ensure concerns are responded to appropriately in line with the organisations Safeguarding Adults Policy and the Child Protection Policy and interagency safeguarding procedures.
Personal/Professional Development: The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include: Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development. This may mean study in staff members own time.
