An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to join our service to provide input into the Regional Communication Aid Service (RCAS). This is a fixed term 12-month position to cover maternity leave. The base for this post will be Walkergate Park Hospital in Newcastle.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to build on their specialist clinical experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to develop the delivery of Speech and Language Therapy within these services, whilst providing excellent, high-quality input.
RCAS is a regional specialised service commissioned by NHS England to provide a service to adults and children with complex communication needs who require the provision of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
Main duties of the job
You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, clients, carers, and other professionals to provide specialised assessment and provision of augmentative and alternative communication systems.
You will need to be confident in providing high-quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions in the field of AAC and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex communication and other disabilities within a variety of settings and environments.
You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. You will provide informal training, coaching, and support to individuals, their families, and other professionals. You will also lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programmes for local speech and language therapy teams.
You will work closely with the clinical lead for the team and will provide clinical supervision, support, and leadership for other members of the team as designated.
Regular support and supervision will be available, as well as training and development opportunities. You will be expected to actively engage in this and the continuing professional development process. The post involves significant travel across the North East of England and North Cumbria.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Recognised SALT degree or equivalent and up-to-date HCPC registration
* Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses and CPD to Masters level equivalence
* Postgraduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
* Attendance at a leadership course
Skills and Competencies
* Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management
* Evidence of effective organisational skills
* Expert supervision skills and experience to support others
* Evidence of maintaining accurate and contemporaneous record keeping
* Be able to travel between various locations within the trust
* Demonstrate change management skills
* Knowledge of RiO data systems and IT skills
* Experience of conducting and evaluating clinical audit

* Experience and ability to work within MDTs
* Advanced knowledge and skills in the management of service users with acquired brain injury
