Due to a recently awarded five year civil engineering water framework, a leading main contractor has an opportunity for a Design Manager to complement their team in Brighton.
This is a key leadership role with the Design Manager taking responsibility for design reporting, quality, resource management, and design process across a program of works valued at over £600M.
Scope of works includes project definition, developing solutions, and detailed design.
This is a hybrid working role with two to three days per week based in the Brighton office.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Design Manager will be responsible for the following:
1. Maintaining an active role within the Design Leadership Team
2. Design progress reporting at a Framework level
3. Resource Management at Framework level
4. Recruitment and onboarding of design staff
5. Design team competency assurance and coordination of training needs
6. Competency assurance for specialist outsourced designers and supply chain designers
7. Development and continual improvement of AMP8 design procedures and ownership of our internal Design Management Audit process representatives
Experience Required
Suitable Design Managers will be educated to degree level and will be able to demonstrate significant experience managing a design team within the civil engineering/infrastructure sector working on design and build projects.
Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate water sector experience with an understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes.
Practical experience of managing design production including Earned Value Analysis (CPI/SPI).
Previous experience of successfully delivering design procedural and process enhancements/improvements.
Planning, resource management, change management, and budget management.
Proficient IT skills with experience using BIM and delivery practices.
Excellent communication skills are essential.
