Job Title: Industrial Placement Maritime Services Naval Architect
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base (Hampshire)
Start date: 23rd June 2025
BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements; however, it is expected on our Industrial Placement Programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

What you will be doing:
Naval architects don’t just design and build ships; we are essential to keeping them safe throughout their life as well. Our understanding of ship design allows us to make critical decisions on maintenance and repair as well as integrating into them new capabilities that give the Royal Navy the advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Contributing to the design of ship modifications and capability upgrades;
* Using FEA to design structural changes;
* Contributing to the dry docking of ships;
* Taking part in inclining experiments to assess the stability of ships;
* Contributing to stability analyses using specialist software;
* Helping inspect ships to understand their state of repair and come up with repair solutions.
Skills:
As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture/ Maritime Engineering/ Marine Technology. To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
