About the role
We are looking for a Lead Accountant to join our team based in Tewkesbury, UK. This role delivers the financial accounting function for a newly acquired company and provides business partnering to the Finance Manager and the Manufacturing Senior Manager. You will have full responsibility for the end-to-end finance function from revenue recognition to producing management accounts, with a key focus on creating and implementing finance processes. Business partnering will play a key part in decision-making.
What you will be doing
As the Lead Accountant, you will be responsible for:
Month End Processes & Procedures
Performing allocated month-end processes and procedures in a timely and accurate manner
Monitoring and complying with the month-end timetable
Complying with accounting standards and Orica accounting policies
Preparing and reviewing reconciliations for manual accounts, including substantiation of reconciling items
Preparing fortnightly receivables/debtors tracking
Managing the General Ledger, including month-end close, review, and reconciliation
Managing the external audit processes and ensuring audit packs are complete and accurate
Preparing inventory and executing a new inventory management system
Managing project accounting
Contributing to the delivery of timely and useful information and financial advice to drive business decisions
Proactively assisting the business in monitoring and actioning key reconciliations such as assets under construction
Supporting finance projects, cost savings initiatives, or benefits programs, and ad hoc tasks as directed
Financial & Management Reporting
Preparing business unit financial statements, including business unit B/S, P&L, Cash Flow, and consolidation of financial statements
Preparing trial balance and issuing other nominated financial and management reports
Assisting with the annual budgeting process, consolidating and analyzing results, and liaising with business units on their submissions
Assisting with forecasting (monthly and strategic) and reporting on results to management
Audit & Balance Sheet Review
Participating in internal and external audits as required
Assisting with the preparation of the Balance Sheet Review template as required
Assisting with the asset verification process as required
Administration and Compliance
Ensuring compliance with relevant Orica standards, Segregation of Duties, and Orica’s financial authority limits
Ensuring compliance with all tax, treasury, statutory, and financial policies
Acting as the contact for external auditing requirements
What you will bring
Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or Business discipline
Professional designation ACA, CIMA, or ACCA
2 to 5 years post-graduate experience in accounting or finance (or related discipline)
Technical accounting knowledge
Experience in a small owner-managed business (desirable)
Experience with inventory or project accounting (desirable)
Proficiency in Xero and Excel, and financial modelling skills (desirable)
