Welcare Global Ltd is currently preparing our additional homes for Ofsted registration, and we are looking for an experienced Service Manager to onboard as our secondary Registered Manager. This is a pivotal role within our organisation, responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining the highest standards of care, and leading a team dedicated to achieving outstanding outcomes for children and young people in our care.
Job Description: As the Service Manager, you will take on the responsibility of becoming the Registered Manager with Ofsted, overseeing all aspects of the children’s residential home. This role demands strong leadership, deep knowledge of regulatory standards, and a commitment to nurturing a therapeutic environment where each child’s unique needs are met with empathy, support, and respect. You will work closely with the Nominated Individual and the current registered manager to ensure the home meets all regulatory requirements and delivers quality, child-centred care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management
o Lead and manage a team of therapeutic support workers to ensure that all practices align with Welcare’s mission, values, and policies.
o Support the implementation of Welcare's therapeutic approach, creating a nurturing and structured environment for young people.
o Develop high-quality, child-centred support plans and risk assessments, incorporating input from the service users whenever possible.
o Act as a role model, promoting anti-discriminatory practices and inclusivity.
o Oversee staff training and continuous professional development, ensuring compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
o Coordinate and conduct team meetings, handovers, and supervisions, setting clear expectations and objectives.
o Ensure the completion of weekly objectives and timely follow-up on assigned tasks to maintain accountability within the team.
2. Compliance and Quality Assurance
o Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations and maintain high-quality standards across all aspects of the home.
o Actively prepare for Ofsted inspections, aiming to achieve and maintain a rating of 'Good' or 'Outstanding'.
o Continuously review and enhance policies, procedures, and documentation to align with regulatory standards and best practices.
o Implement effective quality assurance processes, including regular audits, to monitor the quality of care and identify areas for improvement.
3. Care Management and Support Planning
o Develop and maintain individualised care plans and risk assessments, ensuring a therapeutic approach tailored to each child’s needs.
o Encourage children and young people to work towards objectives identified in their support plans, promoting self-sufficiency and personal growth.
o Conduct regular Key Worker sessions with each service user, supporting them in achieving their "Key to My Future" goals.
o Facilitate "move-on" options and future planning with each child and young person, assisting them in preparing for the transition to the next stages of life.
o Organise and lead Children in Care (CIC) Reviews, advocating for the needs of children and young people in collaboration with social workers and other professionals.
4. Safeguarding and Risk Management
o Act as the designated safeguarding lead, ensuring the welfare and protection of all young people within the home.
o Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with each service user, adapting strategies as necessary to safeguard their well-being.
o Conduct thorough risk assessments for activities, outings, and daily routines to mitigate potential hazards.
o Respond promptly and effectively to safeguarding concerns, escalating issues to the appropriate authorities as necessary.
5. Relationship Building and Multi-Agency Collaboration
o Maintain strong, professional relationships with social workers, advocates, external agencies, and educational staff.
o Attend multi-agency meetings, advocate meetings, and social worker reviews, representing Welcare Global Ltd positively and ensuring young people’s needs are met.
o Facilitate regular house meetings with service users alongside the Unit Manager to discuss the home’s environment and encourage their input.
6. Daily Operations and Housekeeping
o Ensure the home is well-maintained, clean, and adheres to health and safety standards.
o Oversee household duties, supporting young people in learning basic housekeeping skills such as cooking, cleaning, and organising.
o Encourage young people to take responsibility for their personal spaces, including regular cleaning and maintenance of their rooms and communal areas.
o Support young people in meal preparation, encouraging balanced diets and safe food-handling practices.
7. Administrative Responsibilities
o Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, including care plans, risk assessments, meeting minutes, and other relevant documentation.
o Ensure all paperwork and reports are completed to a high standard and submitted within specified timelines.
o Manage weekly and monthly expenditure in line with budgets, ensuring accountability and transparency in financial records.
o Ensure timely submission of staff timesheets and other administrative documents.
8. Professional Development
o Participate actively in personal development, completing NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management in Residential Childcare if not already held.
o Engage in reflective practice, annual appraisals, and ongoing training to stay current with industry standards and best practices.
o Cultivating a culture of continuous improvement within the team, encouraging professional growth and development among staff.
Person Specification:
Experience and Skills
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a senior management role within children’s residential care or supported accommodation.
* Demonstrated understanding of Ofsted standards, relevant legislation, and the needs of Looked After Children, especially those with early trauma and complex behaviours.
* Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and developing staff in a residential setting.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people, staff, and external stakeholders.
* Proficient in creating and managing person-centred care plans, risk assessments, and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management in Residential Childcare or equivalent, or willingness to work towards this qualification.
* Commitment to further qualifications and ongoing training to enhance service delivery and compliance.
