Summerhill Veterinary Centre is a small animal practice located in the lovely market town of Fakenham. Fakenham is one of the largest towns in Norfolk and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and sits along the River Wensum. The town is at the junction of several local roads, including the A148 from King's Lynn to Cromer, the A1067 to Norwich and the A1065 to Swaffham. Fakenham has great transport links, including buses and a railway station.
We have a supportive and friendly team of 6 Vets, 10 RVNs, 3 SVN and a fantastic support team. Within our team, we have multiple certificate holders in Small Animal Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Surgery, Advanced Orthopaedics, Arthroscopy, Diagnostic Imaging, Advanced Diagnostic Imaging, Opthalmology, Medicine, Physiotherapy and Behaviour.
Practice facilities include Nurses and Vets consulting and treatment rooms, supportive Nurses clinics, digital x-ray, signalpet, dental x-ray and dental machines, full lab- biochemistry, haematology, electrolytes, blood gases, co-agulation, digital microscopy, same day cytology reports, digital urinalysis, endocopy, arthroscopy, nanoscope, doppler ultrasound with multiple probes, fastscan (handheld for pocus), operating theatre, lights, ventilator, multiparameter monitors, defibrillator, full surgical instrument kits for orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, opththalmology, enseal, diathermy, slit lamp, tonometer, oxygen kennels, various heat and warming devices for post op care and intra-op.
We are due to relocate to a new premises in 2025 with additional consult rooms, additional theatres, dental suite, diagnostic room, x-ray, hydrotherapy, separate dog and cat wards, study and quiet areas and staff room.
Step into a supportive start
40 hours per week Monday to Friday generally between 8am and 5:30pm. Hours can be split equally across 5 days, can be a longer 4-day week, or even over 4.5 days. On call 1 night a week (mobile phone, only at practice when called - CD takes phone until you are confident). 1:6 weekends but split so either a Saturday or Sunday. All on call paid extra, for both being on call and then additional payments for any calls or inpatients attended to.
We have many years of experience in taking on new graduates. We are super supportive and will give you the very best start in your career. We want you to achieve your potential and enjoy being a Vet. You will never be left on your own and there will always be someone to ask if you need support or advice. You will have reduced consults and longer time for consults initially and ops day with another Vet for support. Nominated backup for weekends and nights for your first year. Our Clinical Director is very experienced in VetGDP training. You will have regular time for 1 to 1s.
