An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Obstetrics and Gynae Directorate for an enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to join our successful Enhanced Recovery After Surgery(ERAS) team.
The role of an ERAS nurse is to help develop and improve perioperative care using evidenced based practice. The main aim is to reduce the risk of surgical complications which in turn helps to reduce complications and length of stay(LOS)
The successful candidate will help implement the programme into obstetrics and further support the ongoing programme in gynae and other surgical specialties already on the programme
This requires close working relationships with relevant health care professional.
Recent or current experience within the midwifery/gynae or surgical directorate would be beneficial.If you have knowledge and understanding of the ERAS principles. and an interest in education of both patients and staff, the ability to be able to work on your own, however also part of a team this could be the role for you.

To implement the ERAS programme into obstetrics for elective caesarean sections
Continue working with our gynae and other surgical specialities already on the programme
See patients pre op to manage patients expectations in group sessions and one to one
New mums on the ward helping them to achieve their safe discharge criteria
Reviewing other surgical patients on the programme when needed
Joining on ward rounds
Teaching relevant health care professional (HCP)on the principles of the programme
Support discharged patients, follow up phone calls answering any questions to help reduce the risk of readmission
Collecting relevant data, analysing and reviewing trends
Basic computer skills
,Use of excel spreadsheets, training can be given for the right candidate.
Presentations ,posters and abstracts making this a very varied role
MDT meetings including use of a voice recorder to prepare the minutes

You will work autonomously however also as part of the wider team.. This position allows for a more one to one approach with patient centred, holistic care encouraging structured pro active post op recovery.
