Applications are invited for a full time Locum Consultant post as Interventional Radiologist at Aneurin Bevan UHB. The radiology on-call service is provided in-house by first on-call SpRs with secondary support from Radiologists. Main duties of the job
* To provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the specialty to the hospitals so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
* Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
* Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training.
* Requirement to participate in medical audit and in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the ABUHB.
* Domiciliary consultations, as appropriate, to South East Wales residents or as agreed between the two parties.
* The successful candidate will participate in an on-call rota to cover the hospital(s) so designated.
* Any requirement agreed for the provision of cover for consultant colleagues’ periods of leave.
* All qualified staff have a responsibility to supervise unqualified/more junior staff and students on a day-to-day basis to ensure that patients receive appropriate care and that any untoward action is addressed.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board is one of seven Local Health Boards in Wales. It provides acute, community and mental healthcare services to more than 600,000 people living in Southeast Wales and is one of the largest and busiest NHS health boards/Trusts in the UK. It is responsible for delivering services through the Grange University Hospital delivering critical acute care, and its three enhanced local general hospitals in Newport, Abergavenny and Caerphilly, supported by five community hospitals, health centres and extensive mental health and learning disabilities facilities.
The principal place of work for this post is Royal Gwent Hospital but may also involve sessions delivered in other hospitals. The post holder will generally be expected to undertake their programmed activities at the principal place of work or other locations agreed in the Job Plan. Exceptions will include travelling between work sites and attending official meetings away from the workplace. A planned and cost-effective approach is expected and is included in the DCC sessional allocation. The post holder may be required to work at any site within the Health Board.
