The Perse School is looking to appoint a Sports Coach to work at the Upper School, starting in January 2025. The candidate would ideally have significant experience of playing or coaching Basketball, and some experience in our other focus sports of Rugby, Cricket and Tennis. The successful candidate will be joining at a time when we will have opened our new six-lane 25m swimming pool, additional sports hall and climbing wall to add to the already excellent sports facilities on site and at our Abington Playing Fields.
The department is led by an experienced and supportive leadership team consisting of the Director of Sport and two Assistant Directors of Sport. In total the PE and Games department is composed of more than 15 specialist staff, supported by additional sports coaches who support the programme as required. The sports staff are supported by a wide range of teaching staff from different departmental faculties who coach in games sessions and take responsibility for sports teams at the weekend. This creates an exciting opportunity to work alongside and learn from a very talented team of staff.
The staff are committed to ensuring all pupils find a sport or activity they enjoy which they will hopefully pursue after leaving school. The School strives for excellence both in performance and attitude, and we cater for everyone – regardless of ability – by providing a very high standard of coaching, and excellent facilities and opportunities to train and compete.
Key responsibilities to include coaching Basketball throughout the school in a manner appropriate to children’s ages and abilities; taking responsibility for the Basketball programme and teams throughout the School; and attending, coaching and officiating school fixtures (some of which will be at the weekend).
We are looking for someone with a track record of coaching excellence and strong subject knowledge in Basketball. A relevant and recent coaching qualification, or the commitment to attend relevant professional development is desirable.
The Perse School Cambridge is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools for children aged 3-18, who attend our Pelican, Prep or Upper.

We are committed to providing a very competitive salary and benefits scheme at the same time as offering a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development. We want our staff to feel engaged and purposeful so that they, in turn, help pupils to be happy and successful.
