Could you make a positive contribution to our school?
We are recruiting for a co-opted governor to join our friendly governing body. Our governors come from a range of different backgrounds, skills, and experience but all share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school. Governors are essential for the effectiveness and success of the school and it is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling role. All school Governors serve a 4 year term. They act as a ‘critical friend’, working voluntarily to strategically oversee the running of the school.
Voluntary Unpaid Position
Sacred Heart Primary School is a two form-entry primary school in Tipton for children from 3 to 11 years of age.
Our vision is to develop young people who will have active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. We stress the total development of each child: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, cultural, and physical. We are a richly diverse community and pride ourselves on our highly inclusive practice, endorsed by achieving the Sandwell Inclusion Quality Mark for the second time at the highest level (Enhanced level).
Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance of making a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community, and use and develop your skills. Schools need governing bodies that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills, and experience to enable it to be effective.
We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has:
* an interest in the performance of the school
* an open and enquiring mind and the ability to look at issues objectively
* the confidence to ask questions and join in debate
* a willingness to listen and make informed judgements
* the ability to work well with others
* some time to spare to attend meetings and work with subject leaders
* the ability to support and challenge the school to drive improvement for pupils and staff
* finance experience – school finance preferable but not essential
* HR/staffing experience in an educational setting preferable
The Governing Body at Sacred Heart Primary School has three main functions:
* Setting strategic direction - championing our vision, values, and ethos and setting priorities for school improvement.
* Holding to account - we are responsible for holding the Headteacher and Senior Leaders to account for the quality of teaching and learning, levels of achievement, behaviours, and safety.
* Ensuring good financial governance - ensuring good financial management by setting and overseeing the budget, ensuring that resources are allocated to school priorities and needs. Being a governor can be enjoyable, stimulating, and rewarding. All governors must complete safeguarding checks and be over 18 years old.
We are particularly interested in applications from people with education experience and experience within finance and human resources.
If you are interested, please email a brief description about yourself and why you would like to join our governing body to Mrs. Nicki Elwart, Office Manager/PA to Headteacher – nicki.elwart@sacredheartpri.com.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake all relevant safeguarding checks and an enhanced DBS check.
Sacred Heart Primary School always welcomes visits. Please contact Mrs. Nicki Elwart, Office Manager for further information:
