Job summary
We currently have opportunities to join the Nursing Bank within HPFT as a RN, in particular we are looking for BANK staff to work as and when required often at short notice at Band 5 level in COLCHESTER, North Essex. If you have previous experience of working with Service Users within a Learning Disabilities background, we would like to hear from you. Please apply if you live within easy commuting distance to Colchester.
All roles with the Bank are ad hoc (as and when) and therefore in particular may suit those already working part-time, with other commitments, or who want to work on a short-term basis. We can support Bank staff migration into a permanent role where there are provides support for service users with mental health, learning disability and children's and adolescent mental health problems. Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting particularly within learning disability services.

Main duties of the job
* Maintain responsibility for a caseload of people with learning disabilities and health needs, providing a holistic approach to service user assessment, treatment, review and management of packages of care.
* Ensure that the statutory requirements of the Mental Capacity Act are observed.
* Have the clinical skills relative to the delivery of care in the service.
* Have effective working relationships with other professionals within the service area, across the Strategic Business Unit, Trust and other NHS providers.
* Contribute towards effective management and utilization of resources within the service area.
* Provide clinical advice for service users who present with challenging and mental health needs that promote and facilitate the positive health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities, including direct work with service users, carers, colleagues and other service providers.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential
* Relevant Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
* Knowledge of common physical, mental and emotional health needs experienced by people with a learning disability.
* Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care according to assessed need using person-centred approaches.
* Experience of working with people with learning disabilities or complex health needs.
* Experience of maintaining high standards of recordkeeping consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
Skills
Essential
* Organisational and decision making skills with the ability to work efficiently and effectively within a management structure prioritising competing demands.
* Competent IT skills and an ability to adapt to various systems.
* Skills in recognising and reflecting on barriers to effective communication, modifying communication in response.
* Skill and confidence to verbally de-escalate service users who may exhibit violence and aggression.
Other Job-Related Requirements
Essential
* Physically fit and able to successfully complete a prevention and management of aggression training course as well as annual refresher training.
