I would like to recruit a PA for 40 hours per month to alternate with 2 PAs already in post. These hours will mostly be flexible Monday to Friday although some holiday and sickness cover may be required. They can be mutually flexible and will be arranged in advance.
£12.00 per hour - Due to increase on the 1st April.
Essential requirements:
Due to personal care requirements the PA must be female.
Non-smoker/vaper and no strong perfumes due to my serious health conditions. This also means that it would not be possible to support me on the same day after spending time in a smoky environment. I use home and ambulatory oxygen.
Honesty, openness, patience and understanding. I am immunosuppressed so it will not be possible to support me when experiencing or having been exposed to infections which it might otherwise be possible to work with, such as a cold. My other PAs will provide cover at short notice and you may be required to provide cover for them for the same reason. This is why the hours are spread over a 4 weekly period rather than weekly.
Comfortable with a cat.
If reliant on public transport, within a reasonable commuting distance to DE11.
There will be 2-month probationary period to give us both the opportunity to assess how we get on.
Desirable qualities:
Prior experience as a PA or care provider is not essential. I am looking for someone with maturity gained through varied life experience and background and the ability to apply that to the role. A non-flappable and calm demeanour and a good sense of humour would be ideal.
Some similar interests. My hobbies and interests include: gardening, growing flowers and spending time in nature; walking; birdwatching; cooking; reading; doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles; languages and studying with the Open University.
Own transport. I have National Trust membership with free entry for a companion so there would be the opportunity to make use of this if the PA is interested.
Good communication skills. I experience difficulties with my voice and can be difficult to hear/understand. For this reason someone willing to take the time to get to know me so that they are able to communicate on my behalf would be preferable.
No heavy lifting required but due to breathing problems I need support with tasks which are low down and high up – for example, picking things up off the floor and reaching for things out of cupboards – so this position might not be suitable for someone with back problems.
I can offer:
A permanent contract with a guaranteed 40 hours per month; DBS check if not already completed; the opportunity for a PA to attend a BSL course with me if they wish to enhance their skill set; training in oxygen and medicine administration; the opportunity to learn about Italian culture, language and food and to practise the Italian language if already a student/speaker and/or interested; free entry to National Trust properties and gardens and the cinema when accompanying me.
