Operations Manager

Our client is a highly specialised global steel company involved in the production, distribution, and processing of steel products for all the primary market sectors. This company has an annual steel production equivalent to the combined output of the top 5 mills in Western Europe, an annual turnover in excess of 70 billion dollars, and iron ore extraction in excess of 100,000 tonnes. This company consistently produces a product renowned for quality and with their market share, they dominate the supply chain.
This company now has a requirement for an experienced Operations Manager to join the team in the North East of England, to organise and oversee the design and manufacture of the company's wide range of steel products. The successful candidate will be ultimately responsible for the smooth running of production, operations, and the quality of output to schedule and budget.
The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of efficient production processes specific to high def plasma, fibre laser, and oxy gas profiling with a commercial focus. The ability to direct personnel towards maximum performance will set you apart as a leader. Decision-making and problem-solving will take up a great part of your day.
The goal is to ensure an efficient and productive design and manufacturing process that meets customer requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Liaise with other managers to formulate objectives and understand requirements.
2. Oversee and lead the design process to ensure it delivers high quality, cost-effective, and timely solutions in line with business needs.
3. Organise workflow to meet specifications and deadlines.
4. Monitor and drive production to achieve deadlines and continuously improve, resolving issues that arise.
5. Supervise and evaluate performance of production personnel.
6. Determine amount of necessary resources (workforce, raw materials, etc.).
7. Work with Maintenance and others to schedule planned maintenance work, specify and purchase equipment, etc.
8. To continually maintain and improve the quality of products.
9. Enforce and develop health and safety and environmental systems, supported by the H&S manager, to meet relevant standards.
Requirements
1. Proven experience in production management ideally from within the steel industry.
2. Experience in design for customer-specific product applications and product development.
3. Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations.
4. Knowledge of performance evaluation.
5. Experience in reporting on key production metrics.
6. Outstanding communication ability.
7. Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
8. Experience of HR management and recruitment within a functional operational role.
9. Willingness to be flexible in order to meet the business needs.
10. Attention to detail.
11. Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach.
12. Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD, and a working knowledge of ERP and Manufacturing systems.
