ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY The role of QHSE Assistant focuses on maintaining and developing systems and procedures, in conjunction with the QHSE Manager, to ensure compliance with all relevant aspects of health and safety legislation. To be a resource for the management team to provide advice upon best practice in matters relating to health and safety. Key activities: Working in conjunction with the QHSE Manager, be a UKAS point of contact at Intertek Leigh for all compliance and accreditation requirements, and to help to oversee all UKAS audits, in particular, improvement actions and the resolution of non-compliance. To be a pro-active member of the Quality Systems team at Intertek Leigh and to work closely with all other members of the laboratory team maintaining good personal relationships at all times. To support the QHSE Manager in maintaining and updating the Quality Management Systems. Review any changes to the management system, industry standard procedures, documents pertinent to accreditation requirements and any client documents and specifications and ensure that these are communicated to all relevant employees. Acting as an internal quality auditor and if required nominate additional internal auditors who are independent of the specific activities being audited. Provide support to the operational units of the laboratory for calibration of equipment and servicing of equipment. Development and maintenance of register of current and forthcoming Health and Safety related legislation, interpretation of key standards. The development of training materials and audit programmes for Health, Safety and Quality Management systems, ensuring that training programmes are followed and to bring to the attention of the Customer Delivery Manager & Operations Director any training needs for staff; To ensure a Health and Safety Policy is in place, including the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses, leading or participating in toolbox talks as required, conducting safety inspections, ensuring the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn, avoiding unsafe acts and lead by example. Investigating, or delegating this responsibility where appropriate, any quality related non-conformances including customer complaints, identifying root causes and ensuring that all identified corrective/preventive actions are implemented. Maintaining and reviewing results of internal and external proficiency tests/schemes. Investigating local accidents, incidents and near misses or delegate this responsibility, where appropriate. To hold Safety meetings with the site management team, all Health and Safety Representatives and First Aiders. To ensure that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are documented and available to staff for the work carried out on site. Assisting the operations manager in producing operational budgets in relation to QHSE requirements.
