This includes submitting, twice a year, a list of nominees from the health and adult social care sectors for consideration by Independent Honours Committees. Successful nominees receive honours from His Majesty the King recognising their incredible contributions. Working on the team involves the opportunity to work directly with the most senior people in the Department and across the sector, on a positive agenda and delivery of a key Department of State function. Job description The DHSC Honours Team, within the Ministers, Accountability and Strategy Directorate, is looking to recruit an Honours Manager. The remit of the DHSC Honours Team is to deliver the departments responsibilities within the honours system: ensuring that there are robust processes for assessing and benchmarking all nominations received; carrying out due diligence on all nominations progressed; implementing the recommendations of the five-yearly review of the honours system in 2022; and submitting a list of nominees twice a year, for the New Years Honours List and the Kings Birthday Honours List. We do this by working in partnership with stakeholders, supporting the DHSC Main Honours Committee and six sub-committees, the Kings Ambulance Medal Panel and the DHSC State Honours Committee. The role is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively across different areas of DHSC and wider government. We work closely with teams in DHSC and Cabinet Office and with senior stakeholders within and outside the department; and directly support the Second Permanent Secretary in discharging the departments responsibilities for honours. Within the team, Honours Managers (two) play a pivotal role as case managers. The team works to the fixed timetable of the honours rounds and processes a large volume of nominations. The post holder will also have the opportunity to support additional workstreams including contributing to cross-government policy development on awards within the honours system. Person specification DHSC Honours Managers have the following responsibilities: Case manager role: sifting, scoring and verifying nominations; drafting/commissioning citations; quality assuring records on the case-management system; and taking forward actions on cases after each meeting; and sourcing and considering additional information and due diligence findings. Secretariat role: preparing lists for sub-committees/committee; taking notes of decisions on nominations at meetings, and commissioning actions from others Day-to-day management of the Team mailbox replying to requests for updates etc Operate and manage the secure platform for all committee paperwork, ensuring access is extended/limited to members and that each member has signed the data handling declaration Manage budgets and payments, including for: the honours case management system contract; Coronation/Jubilee medals Draft correspondence and briefing contributions across the teams policy areas and provide advice to Ministers. At busy periods, assist with logging new nominations on the case management system Support the teams commitment to excellence and identifying areas for continuous improvement. Key skills and experience required for the role Essential Excellent written and oral communication skills. Inquisitive approach and attention to detail. Experience of stakeholder management, with a proven track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience of communicating confidently with senior leaders to provide information and advice which will assist in understanding and decision making. Strong organisational skills, experience of managing competing priorities, and delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced working environment. Commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to develop new ways of working and implement effective administrative processes. Ability to analyse complex information and data, form evidence-based judgements, and clearly communicate recommendations to senior decision makers. Desirable Ideally, you will have experience of operating confidently within the boundaries of DHSC/other government department and/or Cabinet Office governance and guidance.
